Anthony
Rubeira, DPT, Clinic Director
Anthony obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology from Quinnipiac
University (Hamden, CT) and his Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy
from Creighton University (Omaha, NE). Anthony and his wife, Laurie,
were the first two doctorally trained physical therapists in Connecticut
history. Prior to relocating to New Bern in 2006, Anthony was the
Director of Physical Therapy Services for Griffin Hospital’s
Occupational Medicine Center (Shelton, CT) and was also an Assistant
Professor at Quinnipiac University where he taught Biology, Cell
Physiology, and Anatomy and Physiology courses. Anthony’s
continuing education experience includes Maitland, Mulligan, and
McKenzie courses as well as courses dealing with vestibular rehabilitation
and the orthopedic management of the spine, shoulder, hip, knee,
and ankle/foot complex. He is a major advocate of evidence based
physical therapy practice and is dedicated to achieving excellent
patient outcomes via patient education and the application of the
most effective treatment strategies. Anthony is an enthusiastic
New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. He regularly participates
in cardiovascular and resistance training and has a passion for
scuba diving. The greatest joys in his life come from his wonderful
wife and two beautiful daughters. |

| Brian
Mara, MPT
Brian obtained his undergraduate degree in Physical Education
from California State University , Chico and his Masters degree
in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California.
His continuing education includes training for Vestibular, Shoulders,
Back, and Neck disorders. He also participated in the Matheson Industrial
Rehab Professional Residency Program. Brian has 12+ years of extensive
Physical Therapy experience and is highly experienced in applying
quality orthopedic care to a wide variety of patients. Brian is
enthusiastic about basketball and general fitness. When away from
the clinic he enjoys camping as well as fresh and saltwater fishing.

Sarah
Teel, MPT
Sarah obtained her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from
the University of Scranton, PA. She relocated to the New Bern area
in May 2008, from the Oregon coast. She has a strong interest in
women’s health therapy, lymphedema, and generalized orthopedic
related dysfunctions. Sarah enjoys participating and watching sports
such as football, boxing, and outrigging. When she lived in Oregon,
she volunteered her time to the local high school football team
for sports medicine including on-field assessments and injury treatment.

Kerry
Rice, PTA
Kerry relocated to New Bern, NC from the Northern Virginia area
in 2005. She is a Physical Therapist Assistant licensed in both
North Carolina and Virginia. She graduated from George Mason University
in 1975 with a B.A. in History and later from Northern Virginia
Community College in 1993 with an A.A.S. in Physical Therapy (Assistant)
to affect a career change. Kerry was an aerobics exercise instructor
for the town of Vienna, Virginia for eight years and assisted with
the aerobics classes at James Madison High School. After earning
her PTA degree, she worked in an outpatient orthopedic clinic in
Centreville, Virginia for 12 years. During this period, she instructed
and mentored Northern Virginia Community College PTA students in
the clinical environment. She instructed young athletes in community
soccer clinics and participated in career fairs for a local high
school. In March, 2004, Kerry served on the medical team supporting
the World Figure Skating Championships in Washington, D.C.

Steven
Elliott, PTA
Steven is the newest member of the Peak Performance staff. He obtained
his Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Martin Community College.
He is a life-long resident of Eastern North Carolina. Prior to becoming
a PTA, Steven worked with his father in the turf grass business,
charter fishing and the heating and air industry. He is a compassionate
person who is dedicated to the profession of physical therapy and
the welfare of his patients. His hobbies include weight training,
fishing, scuba diving, and any active sport on land or in the water.

Andy
Klatt, MPT Clinic Director
After graduating from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in
Exercise Science, Andy earned a Masters degree in Physical Therapy
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His career
has been focused in the outpatient orthopedic setting with continuing
education in manual therapy, spinal disorders, Kinesio Taping, Strain-Counterstrain,
Total Motion Release, and wound care. His research topic while at
UNC was "The Effects of Training on Reliability of Pelvic Landmark
Palpation Using a Pelvic Model". When not dedicating himself
to the wellbeing of patients, Andy enjoys salt water fishing, travel,
sports, and boating with his wife and two children.

Angela
Phillippe, PT
Angela graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Physical
Therapy from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She began
her career in the Roanoke, Virginia area and worked in a variety
of settings including inpatient care in a regional referral hospital/Level
One Trauma Center. She also worked in a skilled nursing facility,
home health care, and was Department Director at a hospital-based
PT clinic with an extensive caseload of patients with work-related
injuries. Angela was commissioned into the United States Navy Reserve,
and in 2004 was called to active duty. She served as a Physical
Therapist at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, then was reassigned
to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune. On release from active duty in 2006,
Angela joined the Havelock Peak Performance clinic. Now retired
from the Navy, Angela enjoys competing in the equestrian sport of
dressage and walking on the beach with her dogs and husband Freddie.

Sarah
Hall, DPT
Sarah earned her undergraduate degree from NC State in 2003. She
earned her MPT and DPT from UNC-CH in 2005/2007. Her background
includes acute care and outpatient orthopedics. She has worked with
patients from 2 wks old up to 100 yrs old. She also enjoys working
with aquatic therapy. She is the main aquatic therapist for the
New Bern and Havelock clinics. Some of her continuing education
has included: Strain-Counterstrain, total motion release, and aquatic
therapy. In her free time, she enjoys landscaping and spending time
with her husband and 2 cats.

Amy
Hauerstein, MSPT
After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from
Virginia Tech, Amy went on to receive her Masters degree in Physical
Therapy from Widener University in Chester, PA. As a Navy wife,
Amy has worked in various clinics from the west to the east coast
in both outpatient and skilled nursing settings. She has attended
continuing education courses in geriatric exercise, McKenzie low
back, balance dysfunction, osteoporosis management and most recently
Total Motion Release. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy
Association and orthopedics section. She has worked part-time in
the Havelock office since May 2008 and brings her vast experience
and education in manual therapy and the rehabilitation of general
orthopedic conditions to the clinic. |

Brigitte
Smallwood, OT
Brigitte received her Bachelor of Health Science degree in 2003
and her Master of Occupational Therapy degree in 2004 from the University
of Florida. She has been with Peak Performance since September 2007
where she specializes in upper extremity rehabilitation. Her occupational
therapy experience consists of pediatric occupational therapy, inpatient
rehabilitation, orthopedics, and hand therapy. Brigitte’s
outside interests include walking, boating, spending time with her
family, and cheering on the FL Gators.

| Garth
Espigh, MPT, Clinic Director
After graduating from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Kinesiology, Garth earned his Masters degree in Physical
Therapy from St. Ambrose University of Davenport, Iowa. He has clinical
experience treating High School and College athletes and is well
versed in application of manual therapy techniques for the treatment
of general orthopedic conditions. He also has an interest in providing
sports therapy support at local high school events. Garth's outside
interests range across a variety of athletic activities to include
baseball, softball, weight training and he is an avid fan of Penn
State football and UNC basketball.

Beth
Measamer, DPT
Beth Measamer was raised here in Greenville. She attended East Carolina
University for her Bachelors in Business Administration graduating
in 1999. She then continued on completing her Master’s in
Physical Therapy in 2001 from East Carolina University. She then
completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from A. T. Still University
in 2008. Beth has been a Physical Therapist since 2001 with experience
in manual therapy, orthopedics, pediatrics, and neurology. Outside
of the clinic Beth enjoys the outdoors, sports, loves animals, and
is involved in her Church. She can be found at all of the ECU football
games in the fall.

Jessica
Brinson
Jessica obtained her Physical Therapy Assistant degree from Martin
Community College . She was born and raised in Vanceboro and started
working for Peak as a technician while going to school to become
a PTA. She enjoys water sports, riding four-wheelers, hunting, watching
Carolina basketball (GO TARHEELS), and spending time with her family
and friends. |

Kira
Porter Boyd, Clinic Director
MSPT, ATC, CSCS
Kira is a licensed Physical Therapist, NATA Certified Athletic Trainer
and NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She completed
her undergraduate degree at The University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill. She earned her Master of Science degree in Physical
Therapy from The University of Miami. She was involved with athletic
training coverage of various varsity sports at UNC and worked with
the Miami Hurricanes Football team.
Kira started her Physical Therapy career at Professional
Orthopedic and Physical Therapy in New York City. She joined the
staff of Peak Performance New Bern in 2002. Kira accepted the position
of Clinic Director for the Jacksonville location when it opened
in October 2004. She has ties to the Jacksonville community and
spent a large part of her childhood in Jacksonville when her father
was stationed at New River Air Station, Camp Lejeune, and Cherry
Point with the Marine Corps. She enjoys working with the large population
of military retirees, dependents and active duty personnel that
are in eastern North Carolina. She continues to treat a diverse
caseload of orthopedic and sports medicine patients in the Jacksonville
clinic. Kira has earned a strong reputation for returning injured
athletes to competition and many of her former high school patients
have gone on to compete at the collegiate level after completing
their physical therapy at Peak Performance. She has accumulated
a wealth of knowledge through continuing education courses including:
the Maitland manual therapy approach; the McKenzie method for spinal
dysfunction; Plyometrics and sports specific rehabilitation; Kinesiotaping;
SI Joint Dysfunction; Pre and Post Partum Physical Therapy; Strain-Counterstrain;
and Total Motion Release. Kira's outside interests include travel,
boating, fishing, and spending time with her husband and son. She
is also an avid North Carolina Tarheels and Miami Hurricanes fan.

Catherine
O’Sullivan, DPT.
Catherine graduated from CUNY Graduate Center/Hunter College with
her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2009. She started her
Physical Therapy career at SportsCare Inc., West Nyack, NY, before
relocating to North Carolina . Catherine joined Peak Performance
as a physical therapist in November 2009 and is enjoying her full-time
position at the Jacksonville clinic. Her clinical experiences include
acute rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury and two orthopedic
rotations. Future interests include obtaining certification to
become an orthopedic clinical specialist. Catherine’s interests
outside of work include sports, playing the bagpipes, and spending
time with family and friends.

Jennifer
Sisson, DPT
A graduate of Elon University with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy
degree, Jennifer joined Peak Performance as a physical therapist
in March 2007. She has provided patient care at the New Bern and
Havelock clinics, but she is now enjoying her full-time position
in Jacksonville. Jennifer is a native of West Virginia, and holds
a B.S. in Biology from Emory & Henry College. She has participated
in continuing education courses covering topics such as the management
of sacroiliac joint dysfunction, manual techniques for the lower
quarter based on the Mulligan concept, strain counter-strain techniques,
and advances in the management of knee and shoulder injuries. When
not providing patient care, Jennifer enjoys reading, watching movies
and sporting events, and spending time with her husband, J.R.

Erin
Sierer, DPT, ATC
Originally from Milford, CT. Erin was deeply involved with sports
playing softball and volleyball. She received her Bachelor of Science
in Athletic Training at Hofstra University in 2004, where she worked
with division I athletic teams (baseball, women’s field hockey,
men’s basketball, and football). Erin graduated with her Doctor
of Physical Therapy from Duke University in May of 2007 and soon
thereafter joined the Peak Performance team. She has worked in the
Havelock clinic and is currently working in the Jacksonville clinic.
Erin specializes in treating orthopedic and sports related injuries
and is involved in the aquatic therapy program. She has taken continuing
education courses in: Jones Institute Strain-Counterstrain for the
spine and NAIOMT foot and ankle manual therapy course. When not
treating patients, Erin enjoys being outdoors with her husband,
Patrick and dog, Lucy. Other interest include: working out, playing
tennis, bike rides, rollerblading, and watching Duke Basketball.

José
DeJesus, DPT
José was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. He obtained
both his Doctorate of Physical Therapy and Bachelors in Exercise
Physiology from East Carolina University. His clinical experiences
include cardiac rehabilitation, inpatient rehabilitation, pediatrics
and orthopedics. He has an interest in general sports physical therapy,
particularly shoulder and knee rehabilitation for the young athlete.
Future interests include obtaining certifications to become an orthopedic
clinical specialist, certified strength and conditioning specialists,
as well as a clinical instructor for future therapists. In his spare
time, José enjoys working with college/high school groups
at his church, International missions, traveling, basketball, baseball
and weight training. José is also an avid UNC basketball
and Indianapolis Colts football fan.

Mike
Boyer, MPT
Mike Boyer grew up with the appreciation of sports in Hamler, Ohio.
After a football injury in high school left Mike sidelined, he started
an interest in physical therapy. Mike graduated from the University
of Findlay, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006. After
receiving his Master of Physical Therapy in 2008, Mike relocated
to Jacksonville, NC and began his career with Peak Performance.
He brings extensive manual skills involving the thoracic, lumbar
and sacral spine and is interested in general sports rehabilitation.
He enjoys sports activities and supporting his beloved Steelers.

Jocelyn
Wright, MPT
Jocelyn graduated from Salisbury State University with a Bachelor
of Science in Biology in 1999 and from the University of Delaware
with a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 2002. Jocelyn
has acute care and outpatient therapy experience with extensive
experience working stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and
orthopedic surgeries. Jocelyn has also developed a passion for working
with people with amputation and coordinated the reinstitution of
the Amputee Rehab Program. Jocelyn joined the Peak Performance staff
in January, 2009 and besides extensive experience across a broad
range of therapy treatments, she also brings a passion for working
with performing artists, especially ballet dancers in injury prevention
and specialty treatment clinics for dancers. Jocelyn has volunteered
and supported the Jaycees the American Cancer Society’s Relay
for Life and have served as a team captain. When not working her
career, Jocelyn is busy working projects in her new home.

Debra
Lee Brown, OTR/L, CHT
After working eight years as a certified occupational therapy assistant,
Debra Lee completed her BS degree in Occupational Therapy at WSSU. She
specializes in Upper Extremity rehab and her occupational therapy experience
includes in-patient rehabilitation, wound care, mental health, pediatrics
and hand therapy. Debra Lee’s interests include spending time on
the water and is an avid fan of NC State and NASCAR.

Tim
Biven, PTA
Timothy earned his Associate in Applied Science as a Physical Therapist
Assistant from Arapahoe Community College in 2009. He joined the
staff at Peak Performance in February 2008 as a PT Technician. Prior
to becoming employed at Peak, he faithfully served in his country
for 7.5 years in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman.
He received his formal training in the practice of physical therapy
while stationed at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune. He enjoys spending
time with his family, playing basketball, making people smile, and
traveling.

Figueroa - General Manager
With over 34 year of business experience across a wide range of
disciplines, Jay is focused on supporting all business needs at
Peak Performance as well as expanding business opportunities. A
graduate of the Georgia State University Business School with a
focus on Information Systems and a successful management career
at AT&T, Jay brings skills in business development, information
systems, sales and marketing to continuously improve the experience
at Peak Performance for both patients and physician offices

George Eggers –
Operations Manager
After a successful business career in personnel and management,
George became an enthusiastic member of the Peak Performance staff
in the position of Operations Manager. George can often be seen
in any one of our clinics ensure our administrative and clinical
staff have all the tools and knowledge necessary to provide our
patients with the best care available. Additionally, George is often
seen speaking with patients ensuring they are satisfied with their
Peak Performance experience. When not making patients feel good
about being at Peak Performance, George's attention turns to softball,
fishing and church activities. |
